The plan
From the great fall of Adam and Eve God had promised to restore mankind and his relationship with him. He told Eve that from her seed there would arise one that would step on the serpent’s head (Ge3:15). God had a plan to save man and it was going to be tested through time. So, God sent one man from time to time to model his ultimate plan. From Adam to Job as well as the prophets God pointed to a way of his redemptive plan. Thinking of how during Moses time when the pharaoh was out destroying every child under two, that only one child was saved (Ex2) is a sign of God’s way of redemption unfolding; it was a peculiar. When we think about David and how God selected him to usher in the Messiah starts to unfold a bit clearer picture of the way to salvation. God promises David that one of his descendants will rule for ever(2Sam7:12-13). Finally, we have Elijah who while walking with Elisha on their way was taken unto heaven in a whirl wind on a fiery chariot. He was prophesized to come before the Messiah (Ma4:5). The way was being prepared for the coming King; Jesus.
Acts 22:4
4 And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.
Now, the word Way means- a journey, a travelers way, a course of conduct, a way of thinking and deciding. God had been preparing those who believed on him for a journey back to him as with the Christmas star and the shepherds and the wise men (Mt2:9-11). And, so it happened with the shepherds, as they were watching their herd a host of angels appear instructing them of the advent of the Son of God. On the 21st of this month the two stars Jupiter and Saturn will create the Christmas Star that lead the way to the Messiah. The way to Jesus is clear, it leads all men to salvation, and John and Paul experienced this. John was the last of the prophets and was commissioned to prepare the way of the Lord. Paul’s ways were altered when he was on his way to persecute the church, God had other plans for him(prv16:9). Paul’s thinking was changed and he became of the way. Jesus said “I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me“(Jh14:6).
12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
Proverbs 16:9
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps
