His mercy still here
God’s mercy is from everlasting to everlasting (ps103:17). The word mercy is mentioned 261 times in the bible. Through out the bible God’s mercy are for those that fear him, but what about those that do not fear him? Are they covered by mercy too? Solomon says that we are not consumed because of God’s mercy (La3:22-23). So, to answer the question of are those who do not fear God covered in his mercy, yes, they are. And, the reason that people that do not know him are covered is because of us. The Lord’s mercy is upon this land or planet, because at least one person fears him. Fearing the Lord activates his mercy, and, so every wrong doing is covered. Because of his mercies our sin’s are forgiven and forgotten and we are saved (tit3:5). When God was dealing with Sodom and Gomorrah he promised Abraham that he would find at least one person that would fear him, he would not destroy it(Ge18:32). Unfortunately, there was not found one righteous in the city of Sodom and it had to be destroyed. God’s mercy spared Lot and its family from the destruction of Sodom.
Luke 1:50-51
For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
Mary understood this concept of mercy well as instructed by her parents. She was from the family line of David and because of the God’s promise of a redeemer from that line, Mary was selected. The selection of Mary began the out pour of God’s mercy upon man. The conception of the Lord Jesus was so impactful that even before coming out of the womb his power was felt. For example, when Mary came to visit Elizabeth, the fetus that was in her leaped with joy and she was filled with the Holy Spirit (Lk1:41-42). Mary became the avenue for God’s mercy and it was felt throughout. In fact, when Jesus was fulfilling what Isaiah said that he would do; that is heal the sick, cure the blind and set the captives, people questioned if he was the Christ, as the Samaritan women did (Jh4:29-30). Now, just because God’s mercy is reflected on us; we are the ambassadors of mercy, it does not mean that if one rejects it that they continue to be covered. As Mary said that the proud of imagination are scattered, so mercy is no where near them.
God’s mercy is in the image of Christ(Eph2:4-5). Mercy is defined as kindness, compassion, empathy and pity. God gave us life through Christ which a reflection of his love towards us.
17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;
22 It is of the Lord‘s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.
Luke 1:41-42
41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: 42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
John 4:29-30
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
Ephesians 2:4-5
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
