Our soul

Children are dependent on their parents to nurture them and to instill live long values that will carry them till they are grown up. Depending on how a parent nurtures their child determines how successful that child will be in life. The best time to nurture a child is when they are young, because they are more receptive to the care. The soul is the direct object of nurturing in a child. The reason society is the way it is because the soul of man was il-nurtured. The troubles we feel in life are felt in the soul (Ps88:3). The soul’s respond to life’s experiences and it is reflected on our faces and how we react. It is where our feelings, identity and personality reside. David spoke to his soul and asked why you are downcast (Ps42:5), when he knew on whom she should have been trusting. God is the one that can heal our souls. Besides healing, it needs to be purified (1Pt1:22) as a child’s soul.

Matthew 10:13-15

13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

Parents brought their children to Jesus so that he could touch them and minister to their souls, but the disciples thought of it as an interruption as if the soul of a child is different than that of an adult. The soul of a child is the beginning place for whether he/she will be successful or a failure in life. In order for the kingdom of God to be received by someone his soul must be as a child. Children are useless, always needing, needing to be lead, always learning, and ready to be nurtured. Jesus’ disciples were in discord when they were discussing who would be the greatest in the kingdom. And he took a little child and placed him before them all (Mt18:2-4), and he gave them the requirement to enter and be great in the kingdom. The soul that is humble as a child will enter and be great in God’s kingdom.

The soul needs to be in a receiving state in order for him to have access to God’s kingdom. The Apostle speaks about a state of hardness in a person that does not allow him to enter into God’s kingdom (Eph4:18). Jesus spoke to the religious leaders about their hardness of heart in the martial relationship and divorce (Mt19:8). The Psalmist called out to God and said, “create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit with in me” (ps51:10).  Jesus told Nicodemus that in order for him to see the kingdom of God he needed to be born again (Jhn3:3). As believers with all the trials and tribulations life brings, one’s soul can be hardened.
