Life’s treasures
There are many things in life we consider to be valuable treasures, such as children, cars, homes, families, and money. We all have a quest to find more of these treasures; we will go to great lengths to get them. The more treasures we have, the happier we are. Life is a great treasure hunt and some of us will stop at nothing to acquire them. Some of the treasures are easily acquired while others are nearly impossible. Some treasures seem to have wings to fly because as soon as one finds them they fly; like money, some relationships, and others. So what is a treasure? A treasure is an abundance of something we deem to have high value. Jesus compared the kingdom of God to a treasure that a man finds. And, when he has found it he hides it and then goes and sells all that he has to purchase it (Mt13:44-46). The parables depict the sacrifices a person will make after finding the treasure. He will sell all that he has to go and purchase that treasure. It is what Jesus told the young rich man he needed to do for him to have treasures in heaven (Mt19:21). This treasure of the kingdom of God the only place that can be stored for safety is inside someone. The Apostle Paul tells us that the treasure of the kingdom of God is stored in fragile vessels (2 Cor4:7). Once someone has found the treasure of the kingdom of God, he puts it inside him (Ge43:23) is what Joseph told his brothers.
Matthew 6:19-21
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
The earthen treasures we find can either be ruined or stolen. When we find these treasures, Jesus said we should not put too much emphasis on them because they will lead to heartbreak. Treasures that are ruined or stolen tend to scare our hearts with pain. Luckily for us, God says that he is near the brokenhearted (Ps34:18), and he heals it (Ps147:3). The things that we have deemed to be considered treasures are because our hearts have placed great value on them. Our hearts are constantly hunting for treasures. The proverbs tell us that we need to guard our hearts because out of them flow the issues of life (Prv4:23).
Matthew 13:44-46
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Matthew 19:21
Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
2 Corinthians 4:7
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
Psalms 34:18
The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Psalms 147:3
He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
Proverbs 4:23
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
