The body
The only part of the body that has a command center is the head. Every part of the body is subject to the head, and without it each other part; though it may have life, it cannot function as it was meant. Now, there are some parts of the body that draw quit a bit of attention like the belly but we probably can do with out. Or, the nose, we could probably survive with just a couple of holes where the air would flow through. Or, even the hair, everyone could probably get a hat or have an umbrella for shade. The fact is that we could do without some parts of the body, yet they are there for a reason and a certain degree of honor is given to them unlike other more essential parts. The bible says that two are better then one, because if one falls the other can pick him up (Ecc4:9-10). The need for each other is great. In fact, if we did not have another beside us, we could not survive as a race. What one has another is lack. Peter says that we need to use our gifts to build another up (1P4:10), it is what makes us ministers of God. Watching over our fellow neighbors that they fail not and fall into bitterness, is our call (He12:15).
1 Corinthians 12:22-24
22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: 23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. 24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked.
Now, God has made the body so neatly jointed that no one member can survive on its own as a body. In fact, those members that seem to be not needed are given much honor. Because, each member has their particular function that the body needs (Ro12:4-5), the body relies on them to function properly. The body’s central theme or purpose is to walk in love, but it cannot do so unless every member of its composer does its function (Ep4:16). Members of the body of Christ should have the same care one towards another no matter what level of importance each has; whether a foot, eye or ears (1Co12:12). But, division has settled into the physical body of Christ, causing members with particular purposes taking on other purposes. Paul encourages us to keep the unity of the Spirit (Ep4:13) no matter what part are we in the body, it is a central purpose of the body. Jesus told those who persecuted him that a kingdom divide could not stand, if Satan is divided with his demons their kingdom will fall; it so with the church.
8 There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail.9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
1 Peter 4:10
10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
Romans 12:4-5
4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
Ephesians 4:16
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
1 Corinthians 12:12
12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
Ephesians 4:13
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
