The blessing and the curse.
We all want the good things in life, not the bad. We strive to acquire the good stuff no matter the cost. The things that we think to be good for us we like to call blessings. A blessing is a beneficial thing that is good for us such as God’s favor, protection, and prosperity (Pro10:22). James says that everything good comes from above, from the Father of lights (Jm.1:17). The blessing is to be desired over the curse both are set before us (Deut.11:26). Now curses are those things that are not good for us. A curse is a supernatural utterance intended for punishment spoken over someone. When good words are spoken over someone to receive them as people of God we say “Amen.” The utterances of “Amen” confirm the acceptance and to receive and do what is spoken; so be it. All the promises of God are Amen in him; so be it (2 Cor1:20). It appears 129 times in the bible. Jesus calls himself to the church of Laodicea the Amen (Re.3:14).
Deuteronomy 27:26
26 Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Moses gave the people of Israel the law of God, they were to write them on a stone. The stones were going to be used to build a wall of an altar where a sacrifice was to take place. When God’s people came to Canaan he told Moses to separate them into two sides, the blessed and the cursed. There at Canaan were two mountains near each other with a valley in between. The twelve tribes of Israel were divided six were to go to Mount Gerizim, the blessed, and the other to Mount Eba, the cursed. Each tribe member needed to hear each other confirm their profession to do the law and understand the curse. One priest stood in the valley in front of the blessed ones and the other on the cursed ones and they too needed to hear the confirmation. The profession of their faith was important because it was a commitment. The Bible teaches us that it is with our mouth that we profess unto salvation (Ro. 10:9-10).
The people confirmed the curses and the blessings that came with the law. Curses such as; making graven images, setting light or abusing verbally or physically his parents, preventing strangers, widows, and fatherless, lying with beasts, sisters, father’s wife, killing his neighbor or innocent persons. The blessings that came with the law included; prosperity in fields, the storehouse, the fruit of the body, the field, the cattle, esteem with the people, and victory over the enemy (Deut.28:2-6).

James 1:17
