Be Strong in the Lord

One of the things that happens when one embarks in serving God wholeheartedly is that all of God’s promises tag along throughout his/her time. And one of the promises that comes with following God, is that he promises to give you strength. King David called the very presence of God his strength, and that is why his heart would leap for joy (ps.28:7).  Isaiah said that they who wait on the Lord, He would renew their strength and that they would mount like on wings of eagles (Is40:31). The word strength and its derivation appear 360 times in the bible.  It is good to feel strong. It is a response after the mind has surveyed the body, that the feeling of being strong is felt. And strength comes from the Lord, he is the one who provides the enablement to every person that has some sort of grade of just to carry out their own life in strength (prv10:29).  Even after one feel that age is creeping up on them, the want of being strong never depreciates. The scriptures tell us that we need to be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might (eph6:10). This feeling of God’s strength it is so good that it needs to be shared with those who feel weak and forsaken (ps71:18).

Joshua 14:11

11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.

Now, Caleb was this old man of eighty-five years whose mindset was that of forty. He was from the tribe of Judah, and one of the twelve spies Moses sent out to check out the promise land God had promised. He was the oldest man in the time of when Joshua became the leader of Israel. In fact, Caleb was twice as old of any man in the tribe of Judah, yet he felt as strong as he was when he was forty. When Caleb was forty, he was committed to follow after God wholeheartedly unlike his fellow spies. Who after surveying the promised land and noticed the strength of the people there, were intimidated and became fearful. And though they witnessed the abundance of the land; the giant grapes (num13:23) and the lust land, they focused more on the giant men. In fact, the intimidation was so that they began to spread lies among the people melting their hearts with fear (num13:31). Caleb also noticed the giant men but did not put any emphasis on their size or what seemed like their strength. His thought was, we can take them (num13:30), because greater is he that is with us as was Johns (1Jh4:4). Putting too much attention to the size of the enemy weakens the heart.
