His sheep hear his voice
The place where the sheep begin to hear their shepherd’s voice is called the sheepfold. When sheep are born the shepherds take them to the sheepfold to care for them. Shepherds make a temporary sheepfold when traveling with the sheep or a permanent place at home to house the sheep. The sheep are trained to learn their shepherd’s voice while at the sheepfold. Once they have learned their shepherd’s voice they are led out of the fold and can travel with him. Jesus used the parable about the sheep and the shepherd’s voice to ensure his benefits of protection and guidance in John 10 (Jh10:4-5); no one will be able to snatch them from his hands. Isaiah the prophet says God like a shepherd will take the sheep into his arms hold them close to his heart, and heal them (Is40:11). The sheepfold is the place of impact where the newborn sheep begin to hear and know his voice.
John 10:40-41
And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode.
41 And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true.
42 And many believed on him there.
After the religious refused to believe and threatened to kill Jesus he traveled to the place where it all began, the place of baptism; just beyond the Jordan River. John’s place of baptism was the Jordan, where many people were baptized including Jesus the Messiah. The people in the Jordan River believed in John but had not yet believed in Christ. John did not perform any miracles leaving that to the Messiah, but his message of repentance and Christ was clear there. There at the Jordan John declares Jesus the Messiah and Son of God (Jh1:29-31). When he returned to the starting place many people were there they remembered the things that John had said about him to be true and believed in him. The scriptures say that he that began a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ (Phip1:6). Jesus’ disciples had a beginning moment when they first believed, it was at the wedding of Cana. Jesus turned the water into wine after it was finished halfway into the feast (Jh2:11). Acts tells us of a beginning place for three thousand people. After they heard Peter’s preaching about Jesus, the people were pricked in their hearts believed, and were baptized (Acts2:41-42).
John 10:4-5
4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. 5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
Isaiah 40:11
11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
John 1:29-31
29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. 30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. 31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
Philippians 1:6
6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
John 2:11
11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
Acts 2:41-42
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
