Drawing to God
There is a passive and an exhilarated way to seek after God. Some people still think that they have time to quietly get into God; it is a personal thing and I have all the time in the world most think. But the bible tells us that we must search after God while he can be found (Is55:6). James tells us to draw to God and he will draw close to you (Jm4:8). Meaning that there will come a time when people will search for God and he will not be found, it will be a time of trouble (prv1:28). Jesus before he departed told the religious that they were going to be searching for him, but he was not going to be found (Jh8:21).
Song of Solomon 1:1-4
The song of songs, which is Solomon’s. 2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine. 3 Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee. 4 Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.
This poetic book begins with it’s title giving emphasis to being the very best song which Solomon wrote. This book is a dialog between Solomon and the sodomite lady, which is a symbol of God and the church. And, he begins with this affectionate portion of a kiss, and not by some other individual but his kiss. Now the scriptures are considered God’s love letter to mankind, and he first sent it with his prophets. But, here the bride no longer wants the kiss from the sent but from the groom himself, so God sent his son into the world as a token of his love (jhn3:16). God’s sent brought his scent to man, that is people knew when the prophet spoke if he was sent from God or not; they had this unction, but is was isolated it was only on the prophet. But, when Jesus came his name was as the pouring of ointment of the alabaster box, which filled the entire house (Mk14:3). The name of Jesus spread quickly as of the pouring of ointment. Once people heard that Jesus was coming they would bring the sick or come out to him to be healed. For example, there was this centurion who had an esteemed servant sick, and when he heard that Jesus was coming he sent his religious leaders and then some friends to see if he would heal him.
When God does things in our lives they build our passion and affection towards him. That is why the Sodomites tells Solomon “No wonder the virgins love you”, because you smell so good. She finally says to him “draw me, and we will run after you”. This desire to draw close to God, to some has been passively looked upon, but for others not. For others like Peter and the disciple whom loved Jesus, when they heard that he had rose from the dead and was not in the tomb ran (Jhn20:3-4). They took an exhilarated approach to going after God redeeming the time (Eph5:15-16).
6 Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. 4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
and turn, and I would heal them.’a]
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
